Established April 2011.
I live in California, with my husband and our canine companion Miss Izzy. I started my career as a high school home economics and physical education teacher; and for 20 plus years I was employed by the YMCA in various administrative roles. In my
spare time I teach yoga and various other fitness classes, trained
for and completed 60 marathons and two full "Vineman" Triathlons. In addition, I have been a CASA (Voice for a Child), a Girls on the Run volunteer coach; am an avid reader, love to travel and experience new things.
INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW why I chose KeSon Designs as the name for my business. Well, the story goes like this, Ken and I were College sweethearts. When I moved out on my own for the first time and started a teaching job in East Los Angeles, his parents gave me a Himalayan kitten as a house warming gift. They named my new roommate "KeSon" (Ken and Sonia put together) . . . cute huh? Anyway, moving forward . . . over the years, I am known to whine and have pled helplessness on occasion (as only a wife can do), for him to help me with the technology side of my business. Therefore, I thought it only prudent to give him equal billing.
WHERE I GOT MY LOVE FOR SEWING
My mother and grandmother taught me to sew. They took pride in their efforts and made beautiful garments. Their works of art inspired me. Once I learned to sew, I started to make my own garments. If I wanted a new outfit, I made it. Shortly after I got married in 1984, I no-longer had the need to make my clothes. Yet, I still wanted to sew. So, what to do? Well, I gave it some thought and to full-fill a creative outlet, I turned to quilting and have been quilting ever since.
My love and expertise grew until I felt confident enough to give my hand-made quilts to family and friends. The same family and friends asked me to make quilts as gifts for their family and friends, and so on, and so on . . . Hence, KeSon Designs was born. To my family and friends, I thank you for helping me achieve my dream and live my passion.
I love creating quality one-of-a-kind quilts. Before I start, I like to listen and learn about you and your family; which then inspires me to create a unique quilt, a work of art that reflects your passions and memories.
THE REASON I HAVE CHAIR YOGA WITH SONIA LISTED ON THIS WEBSITE is because teaching Yoga and other fitness classes is also a passion. I love seeing my students improve their functional training and reap the benefits of their daily practice.
